I received a closure notice for my Handycard saying it’s inactive. What should I do next?

If you haven’t used your Handycard for one of the eligible transactions listed below in the past 12 months, it’s considered inactive.

To become eligible for a new Westpac Debit Mastercard®, you’ll need to make at least one eligible transaction by the date communicated to you within the letter (this is normally 60 days after we send the letter to you). This helps confirm your card activity and ensures we can issue your new Debit Mastercard.

To become eligible to transition, make at least one eligible transaction using your Handycard by the date communicated to you within the letter (this is normally 60 days after we send the letter to you). Making an eligible transaction helps us to confirm your card is being actively used and you would like to transition to the new Westpac Debit Mastercard.

Also, ensure your mailing address, email, and phone number are up to date so we can send your new card without delay.

Eligible transactions include only the following:

Purchases – Make a transaction at a store that accepts EFTPOS.

Deposits – Deposit cash at an ATM.

Cash withdrawals - Withdraw cash at an ATM or a store that accepts EFTPOS

Balance enquiries – Check your balance at an ATM

Please note that transactions made using your card in a Westpac branch are not eligible.

After you make an eligible transaction with your Handycard, you’ll be eligible to be transitioned to a new Westpac Debit Mastercard®. Keep an eye out for upcoming communications about the transition and detailed instructions for receiving your new card. We aim to have all eligible customers transitioned by mid-2026.

Yes, there is a specific deadline to make a transaction on your Handycard and activate your account which is mentioned in the communication you have received.

If you do not have a Westpac Debit Mastercard® already and have made transactions in the last twelve months, you do not need to take any action to close your card, we will close it for you and send a replacement with detailed communications.

If you have a Westpac Debit Mastercard® already and also have a Handycard, we will be closing the Handycard by the date mentioned in your communications. However, your Westpac Debit Mastercard® will continue to work, and you will have access to your account.

Yes, you can use your old card until the closure date specified in the communications that you have received.

If no transaction is made before the notified closure date, we’ll take this as consent to close your Handycard. Your account will remain open without card access, and you can continue to make account-related transactions, such as sending and receiving electronic funds transfers.

If you choose not to make any transactions within the date specified in the communications shared with you, your card will be closed, however you will have access to your account. If you require card access for this account, you can order a new Westpac Business Debit Mastercard® via Westpac Online Banking, the Westpac App, or by visiting your local branch.
