Why am I asked to complete verification when I add my card to Apple Pay?

We take the security of your accounts very seriously. When adding a card to Apple Pay, you are required to verify you are the owner of the cards being added.

When you are adding a card to Apple Pay via the Apple Wallet and you select the ‘From Apps on Your iPhone’ option, we will ask you to sign-in to the mobile banking sign-in page using your normal process. We will also send you a  Westpac Protect™ Security Code to your registered mobile number and ask you to enter this.  This will verify you are the owner of the cards being added to Apple Pay.

When you are adding your card to Apple Pay via the Apple Wallet and you scan your card or manually add the card details, you may be asked to complete verification via one of the following options:

  • Westpac App – you will need to have the latest version of the Westpac App installed
  • SMS – you will need to be registered for a Westpac Protect™ Security Code, using an Australian mobile phone number
  • Calling Westpac – in some instances you may be asked to call our contact centre to complete verification

When you add your card through the Westpac App, you must be verified with a Westpac Protect™ Security Code® or a SecurID Token.
