Am I eligible for a bank account in Australia?
To be eligible to open an Australian bank account you must:
- Be 14 years or over
- Have an Australian residential address and mobile phone.
Already in Australia? Open a Westpac Choice account online or in a local branch. You’ll need two forms of ID and a mobile phone.
Still overseas? If you’re arriving in Australia within 14 days, you may be able to do some of the set up in advance, like:
- Create a Customer ID and Online Banking profile
- Set up a Westpac Choice everyday account
Then, once you arrive in Australia, your account will be activated once your ID is verified.
Verifying your ID: If you’re unable to verify your ID online, you’ll need to visit a branch for verification.
