Access to money
If you haven’t already, open a bank account. The Westpac Choice everyday account gives you a Debit Mastercard. You can use the card to shop online, in stores, or to get cash from ATMs. Managing your money is also simple. Use Online Banking or the Westpac App, so you don’t always have to visit a branch. You can also send and receive money from overseas, in Australian dollars.
Want to send and receive funds in a foreign currency?
Consider a Westpac Foreign Currency account. Make and receive payments in foreign currencies – and choose when to convert funds.
Saving for the future
Once you have a bank account, the next thing to consider is putting money away as savings. Westpac savings accounts have no monthly fees, and you can earn interest on your money.
Choose how you'd like to save:
Getting a credit card
Before you apply for a credit card, think about how you spend and what you want to do with your money.
A low rate credit card could help you save money on interest and extra charges if you tend to carry a balance from month to month or a low fee credit card if you want to minimise ongoing fees, when compared to rewards cards.
If you want a credit card with rewards points for your everyday spending, a rewards credit card could be a good choice. You can redeem for gift cards, cashback or transfer points to our frequent flyer partner airlines.

What type of car are you looking for?
Before you even consider a loan for a car, think carefully what type of car you want to get. Are you after a people mover for a large family, a small car to easily get about, or a vehicle that you can use for work? Next how will your car run? Electric, hybrid, petrol or diesel? Then, are you buying a new car or a second hand one? Once you have an idea of the type of car, then consider how much you want to borrow. Our car loan calculator can help you work out your repayments and what you could afford.

The great Australian dream
Once you’re a permanent resident you could look to buy a home in Australia. Many Australians choose to get a home loan to help them buy a property. It’s important you understand the home buying process and how to go about saving for your first home. In most cases you’ll need at least 20% of the home purchase price as a deposit if you want a home loan. To work out how much you could borrow and what you can afford, our borrowing calculator and repayment calculator could be a great help.

Be your own boss
A low rate or low fee card could help you save money on interest and extra charges if you tend to carry a balance from month to month or want to minimise ongoing fees, when compared to rewards cards.
If you pay off your credit card in full each month, a rewards card could be a good choice as they attract higher fees and a higher interest rate than our other cards. With a rewards card, you can earn points when on your purchases. These points can be used for travel, cash, or gift cards.
