What do I need to know about the Handycard to Business Visa Debit Card transition?
Handycards linked to a business account are being retired. Westpac is closing all Handycards from the date specified in the communications sent to you. In those communications, we'll let you know whether your Handycard is eligible for a replacement Business Visa Debit Card or whether it will be closed without a replacement.
If eligible, you’ll receive your new Business Visa Debit Card by mail within 45 to 60 days after we notify you about the change. Check your mail and email for updates.
If your new card hasn’t arrived after 60 days, please contact us on 132 142 for an update.
To avoid delays, make sure your contact details are up to date, including your:
- Residential address
- Phone number
- Email address
If you're an account owner, any cardholders using cards linked to your business account should also ensure their contact details, including their residential address, are up to date.
Cardholders will be mailed the new Business Visa Debit Card to their residential address.
To ensure your card and notifications reach you, update your address, phone number, and email by following these steps:
In the Westpac App:

Yes. Purchases and cash withdrawals will now have separate daily limits:
- $8,000 for purchases and
- $2,000 for cash withdrawals
Once the new card is active, you can adjust these limits anytime in Online Banking or the Westpac App. If you do not wish to move to the new card with these limits, please close the existing Handycard(s) by contacting us on 132 142 or visiting your nearest branch. The new card may still be issued for Handycard(s) closed after 18 September 2026.
You can update your Business Visa Debit Card daily transaction limit (tapping/inserting, online payments) and cash withdrawal limit (ATM, EFTPOS cash out, Bank@Post) in Online Banking or the Westpac App.

Once your new Business Visa Debit Card arrives, follow the activation instructions included in the letter to activate your card.
After your card is activated, you’ll need to set a new PIN for your Business Visa Debit Card. Make sure this is done before the Handycard closure date communicated to you so your new card is ready to use.
Each Handycard cardholder will receive their own Business Visa Debit Card.
If an individual cardholder has more than one Handycard linked to the same account, they will receive one replacement card only, not a replacement for each Handycard.
No, you don’t need to cancel your Handycard. Westpac will automatically close it on the date specified in the communications sent to you, or 3-5 business days after you activate your new Business Visa Debit Card. Once your new card is active, we recommend securely disposing of your Handycard. To do this, cut the card into small pieces, making sure you cut through both the chip and magnetic strip, and discard the pieces separately.
The account details linked to the Handycard remain unchanged, so payments using the account number will remain the same and will continue as usual once your new card is activated. Payments using your Handycard number will need to be updated to the new Business Visa Debit Card number.
You will receive a new card with a new card number. The business account(s) remain fully functional with the same BSB and account number.
Yes. Your new Business Visa Debit Card can be added to a digital wallet like Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay or Garmin Pay, allowing you to make fast and secure contactless payments using your smartphone or wearable device.
If your existing Handycard is currently enrolled in a digital wallet, you will need to re-enrol your new card once it has been activated to continue using digital wallet payments.
There are no costs to switch to the new card. However, standard fees and charges may still apply.
