What do I need to know if I'm supporting someone transitioning from a Handycard linked to a business account to a new Business Visa Debit Card?

No. Westpac is phasing out all Handycard products and will no longer support them.

If you're acting on behalf of someone under your care:

  • Assist them in transitioning to the new Business Visa Debit Card.
  • No action is needed for payments set up using their BSB and account number.
  • Check that their residential address, phone number and email address are up to date to help ensure they receive communications and their new card.
  • If the new card limits don't meet their needs, contact Westpac before 18 September 2026 to discuss available options.

The new Business Visa Debit Card includes separate daily limits for purchases and cash withdrawals:

  • $8,000 for purchases
  • $2,000 for cash withdrawals

These limits differ from those on the existing Handycard. If you're helping someone manage their banking, you may wish to discuss these changes with them to ensure the new limits meet their needs. Once the new card is active, the limits can be adjusted through Online Banking or the Westpac App.

If the person you're supporting doesn't wish to move to the new Business Visa Debit Card with these limits, they should close the existing Handycard by contacting Westpac on 132 142 or visiting their nearest branch before 18 September 2026 to discuss their options.

The new Business Visa Debit Card and related communications will be sent to the cardholder’s residential address on file.

To help ensure the card and notifications reach the person you are supporting, their address, phone number and email may need to be updated by following these steps:

In the Westpac App:

Make sure you have the latest version of the app.

  1. Search Update contact details in the Smart Search bar.
  2. Edit, add or delete the address, phone number or email.
  3. Save changes to any updates made.

In Online Banking:

  1. Go to Services > Preferences > Personal details.
  2. Select Personal and Contact Details.
  3. Enter the SMS code sent to your registered mobile and select Next.
  4. Edit, Add or Delete the address, phone number or email.
  5. Save changes to any updates made.

Westpac is here to support you. If you need help checking or updating your details, please contact us on 132 142 (8am-8pm AEST/AEDT, Monday-Friday), or by visiting your nearest branch for help. You can find your nearest branch on our locate us page.

If you're an account owner, any cardholders using cards linked to your account will also need to ensure they have up-to date contact details.

If you feel the Business Visa Debit Card isn't a suitable product for the person you're supporting, you can call us to discuss alternative ways they can access their account.
