How do I activate my new Westpac Debit Mastercard® and set up a new PIN?

Activating your card
Follow the instructions on the letter your card came with to activate it and set your PIN, via Westpac Online Banking or the Westpac App.
In Westpac Online Banking
- Navigate to Service > Services > Card Services.
- Select Activate Card.
- Enter Card Number and Expiry Date and select Activate.
- Back in Card Services.
- Select Set or Change PIN.
In the Westpac App
- Search Activate card in the Smart Search bar.
- Enter the Card Number. Select Activate.
- Select Change PIN.
To ensure that you don’t lose card access to your account, you should activate and set a PIN on your new card as soon as you receive it.
We’ll automatically close your existing Handycard.
If you don't activate your Westpac Debit Mastercard® before the notified closure date, your Handycard will stop working and you won’t have card access to your account/s. However, our account will remain open, and you can continue to make account-related transactions, such as sending and receiving electronic funds transfers. You can activate your Debit Mastercard® at any time to restore card access to your account/s.
We recommend securely disposing of your Handycard after you have activated your new card. Cut your old Handycard into small pieces, making sure you cut through the chip and magnetic strip. Additionally, you can contact us to confirm the cancellation and ensure there are no risks.
If you’ve never registered for Westpac Online Banking, we’ll mail your PIN approximately two days after your card is mailed to you. Once you receive your PIN in the mail, visit a Westpac branch to activate your card and set up your PIN.
Alternatively, you can register for Westpac Online Banking for 24/7 access to your account, allowing you to activate your card and set up your PIN anytime.
Setting up your new PIN
Yes. After you activate your new Westpac Debit Mastercard®, you’ll need to set up a new PIN. The instructions to activate your card and set up your PIN will be outlined in the letter that comes with your card, simply follow the steps provided to set up your PIN.
You can choose to reuse the same PIN on the new card, but you will still need to set up a new PIN to be able to use your card. Please note, to enhance the security of your card it’s recommended to update your PIN regularly.
If you’ve never registered for Westpac Online Banking, we’ll post you a PIN in the mail approximately two days after your card arrives. Once you receive your PIN, you’ll need to visit a Westpac Branch to activate your card and change your PIN.
You can register for Westpac Online Banking for 24/7 access to your account, allowing you to activate your card and set up your PIN anytime.
