What is Westpac Protect™ SMS Code?

A temporary code that is sent to your registered mobile phone via text message. This helps protect you when banking online by ensuring you are the only person that can confirm certain transactions and changes to your account.

How to register for SMS Code in just 2 minutes

  1. Sign in to Online Banking.
  2. Select Preferences in the Services & preferences drop down menu.
  3. Expand the Security section.
  4. Select Activate in the SMS Code section.
  5. Confirm the number to use for SMS Code authorisation. Select Confirm to continue.
  6. You will be sent an SMS to your registered mobile phone with a 6 digit Westpac Protect™
    SMS Code. When prompted, enter the 6 digit code and select Authorise.
  7. You will be presented with an Activation successful confirmation message. Select OK.
  8. The SMS Code section of the Security section will appear as Active.

Didn’t receive your
SMS code?

You may need to confirm your phone number is up to date. You can check and update your contact details online in Westpac Online Banking or in the app.

If you didn't receive the code and your number is correct, check your mobile device's blocked or spam list for our SMS Code phone number (+61448 222 001). Complete a quick internet search to locate steps on how to find this information for your device type.

My Westpac Protect™ SMS Code is suspended!

To successfully use SMS code you need to ensure the device is "Active". Should you enter a code and your device is suspended, you will be advised to call us to assist with unsuspending the device.

Check your device is "Active" when you're using Online Banking by choosing the "Services" menu and then "Security Settings". If you need to activate your device, you will be prompted to do so. If your SMS code is suspended, please call us on 1300 655 505 or 61 2 9155 7700.


Are you living or travelling overseas?

To receive your SMS Code whilst overseas, you must have international roaming activated and the SMS service must be supported by your local mobile contract provider. A short delay may occur due to international roaming limitations. If you have not updated your phone number to your international number, you can register your phone number in Westpac Online Banking however there are some countries that cannot be selected via Online Banking.
