Frequently asked questions
EFTPOS stands for Electronic Funds Transfer at the Point Of Sale. It's the term used to describe an electronic payment system (also known as a machine or terminal) that enables the taking of payments by digital wallets, debit, credit and charge cards. EFTPOS machines – which can be standalone or connected to a point of sale (POS) system – facilitate the movement of funds from a customer’s credit, charge and debit card account to a nominated business bank account.
Then there is eftpos, which is the debit card payment system that takes funds directly from a customer’s cheque or savings transaction account to pay for purchases in store.
Yes, if it is compatible. Having an EFTPOS machine that integrates with your point of sale system helps speed up payments, avoid errors and make reconciliation far easier - as you won’t have to key each amount into your terminal. Westpac offers EFTPOS Now with Presto which integrates with a variety of popular POS systems, EFTPOS Connect and EFTPOS Flex which integrates with hundreds of Linkly POS systems.
Point of sale (POS) integration is when an EFTPOS machine can be connected to your POS system, meaning that pricing for products or services will appear on the EFTPOS machine without manually keying it in.
Our EFTPOS terminals can connect to the internet via a mobile network (4G) or via Wi-Fi and ethernet.
Westpac EFTPOS machines accept Mastercard, Visa, eftpos, UnionPay, JCB and American Express (subject to a separate agreement#). Plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
