Our security guarantee

If your Westpac account is compromised as a result of Internet fraud, we guarantee to repay any missing funds, providing you comply with our Online Banking Terms and Conditions.

This includes keeping your sign-in details (including passwords, Westpac Protect™ SMS codes and SecurID®Token codes) private.

The Terms and Conditions explain the features, benefits, risks, fees and charges for Online Banking and BPAY®.

You must inform us immediately if you suspect the security of your access details has been compromised or you suspect an unauthorised transaction or potentially fraud on your accounts.

Westpac Protect SMS Code

Westpac Protect™ SMS Code helps protect you by using your mobile phone to confirm certain transactions via text message when you bank online.

It's quick, simple, doesn't interfere with the majority of your day to day banking. It also offers:

  • Increased security (free of charge)
  • A higher daily limit
  • The ability to instantly reset your Westpac Live password online if you've forgotten it
  • Flexibility to instantly increase your limit online
  • Same day 'Pay Anyone' payments to other Westpac accounts
  • Alerts to unauthorised activity
  • The ability to update your personal details online.

Registration with Online Banking is quick and easy

Take just 2 minutes to register. Personal customers, sign in to Westpac Live, select 'Preferences' from the 'Services and preferences' tab, then ‘Security’ and follow the simple step by step instructions. If you don't have a mobile number on file, you'll need to call us to register.

How it works

We'll send a new SMS code via text message to your mobile phone each time you need one. You will need to enter this code into Westpac Live to confirm your transaction.
