Frequently asked questions

TAL Critical Illness Insurance is designed to provide a lump-sum payment if you are diagnosed with a specified serious event. This payment could be used to cover medical expenses, debts, or other financial obligations so you can focus on your recovery.

Your health plays a significant role in determining your critical illness premiums. If you are in good health, you may qualify for discounts on your premium through TAL Health Sense. If you have pre-existing medical conditions or engage in high-risk activities, your premiums may be higher, or you may not be able to get cover. This will be assessed through the underwriting process.

To find out more about these – including more specific cover options – visit the TAL website. The information you provide on the TAL website will be subject to TAL’s Privacy Statement and Privacy Policy, available on their website.

The cost of Critical Illness Insurance depends on factors including, but not limited to, your age, lifestyle, coverage amount, smoking status and the specific policy terms.

There are generally qualifying periods for some specified serious events covered under critical illness. This means that a claim for some Critical Illness events may not be paid if the condition or the symptom of the condition occurred during the first three months from when the policy started, when cover was increased, or when cover was reinstated. In some cases, a longer qualifying period applies.

Critical Illness Insurance may have additional restrictions or conditions, so please read the PDS or speak to a financial adviser to understand how they may apply to you.

When making a claim, TAL will endeavour to make the claims process as easy as possible for you. Just call TAL on 1800 101 016 and they can explain the claim requirements.

The benefit amount depends on the coverage amount specified in your policy, and the specified medical event you are claiming on. It's important to review your policy to understand the exact amount you'll receive in the event of a valid claim.

To find out more, visit the TAL website. The information you provide on the TAL website will be subject to TAL’s Privacy Statement and Privacy Policy, available on their website.

Premiums paid for Critical Illness Insurance are generally not tax-deductible. However, it is essential to consult with a tax adviser or the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for specific tax-related guidance.
