You will gain hands-on experience across your rotations, where you are an integral part of a team to help deliver solutions for our customers. A graduate typically completes a variety of rotations which could include: Interest Rate Sales, Treasury, Economics, Strategy, Debt Capital Markets, Foreign Exchange Sales, Trading or Analytics.

FM & Treasury is looking for people who want to help customers thrive today and redefine tomorrow through unrivalled access and insights in financial markets, or help the bank manage its key financial risks.

Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply (we welcome applications from engineers, scientists and mathematicians, as well as those studying commerce and finance-based degrees) but you will need to have an interest in global markets and possess a diverse skillset, including the ability to adapt and be flexible. Some data skills are helpful but are not essential.

Post-graduate program, Financial Markets & Treasury grads continue to help the Bank and our customers navigate the complexity of financial markets through roles in areas such as Global Sales, Trading and Structuring, along with Debt Capital Markets, Economics and Treasury.

What our graduates have to say

I completed a Bachelor of Commerce and Advanced Studies at the University of Sydney, majoring in Finance and International Business. I’m originally from Wagga but have come to call Sydney home for the past couple of years. Outside of work and study, I enjoy staying active, cooking, travelling, and spending time with friends and family. During my studies, I worked part-time at a financial advisory firm, where I realised that I wanted a role that combined technical expertise, a dynamic environment and strong relationship-building. The opportunity to rotate through different teams at Westpac was particularly appealing as while I knew I wanted to build a career in finance and banking; I was unsure which area would suit me best. Westpac’s reputation as a leader in Fixed Income, along with positive feedback from industry professionals, reinforced my interest in the program.

My graduate year was really rewarding, with several opportunities arising throughout the program that my managers supported me in pursuing. I rotated through Wholesale FX Sales, DCM & Syndicate, Corporate Interest Rate Derivatives Sales, and Treasury CIO & STLM. The rotations provided a balance of trading and sales experience, with a strong focus on client-facing roles. Each team offered something different and I gained exposure across key fixed income products including FX, rates, and credit. A highlight of the year was completing the ACI Dealing Certificate course in the Hunter Valley - an intensive three-day program covering online trading, broking and pricing fundamentals.

I have since transitioned into the DCM & Syndicate team, specialising in securitisation syndication. The breadth of experience gained through the graduate program has provided a strong foundation early in my career and helped me discover an area I’m passionate about. I highly recommend the program to anyone looking to begin their career in financial markets.
