What our graduates have to say

I studied a double degree in Computer Science and Commerce at the University of Sydney, and joined Westpac's Engineering Specialist Graduate Program in 2025 under Digital Consumer Finance (DCF). For me, working at a bank felt like the perfect intersection of my degrees, a place where I could lean on my technical background while still being close to the business side of things. The grad program stood out to me because it promised hands-on rotations across a variety of tech stacks. As someone fresh out of uni who wasn't sure what career path to take, the opportunity to explore different areas of engineering was exactly what I was looking for.

I completed two rotations during my grad program - Java API integration and mobile automation. While I already had experience in programming, I was able to get industry experience in production-grade code, and build experience across different tech stacks, tools and frameworks that I'd never have touched on my own. Something I really appreciated was how easy it was to move around into different roles and areas. If there was something I was curious about, there was almost always a path to go and explore it.

Since rolling off the program…

I've since rolled off into an engineering role in Digital, working on both API integration and platform engineering. What's been most rewarding is the level of ownership I'm trusted with - I get a real say in design decisions and have meaningful input into how things get built. It can still feel a bit nerve-wracking at times having that much responsibility so early on, but it constantly pushes me to grow, and I'm lucky to have a team that's both incredibly supportive and easy to work with.
