The prolonged Middle East conflict has heightened risks to Fiji’s economy via surging fuel prices, rising inflation and pressures on tourism, growth and foreign reserves. While growth forecasts have been downgraded, upside risks remain if fuel prices ease, supply disruptions are limited, and tourism activity proves more resilient than expected.

The six-month annualised growth rate in the Westpac–Melbourne Institute Leading Index, which indicates the likely pace of economic activity relative to trend three to nine months into the future, declined to –0.13% in March from +0.05% in February.
