Support for Veterans and Reservists

At Westpac, we're committed to supporting veterans, reservists and their families throughout their career journey, starting from the application stage and continuing once they join our organisation.

Veteran Buddy Program

If you're considering a role at Westpac, you can request support through our Veteran Buddy Program.

The program connects you with a volunteer Westpac employee who has military experience and can provide insights into working at Westpac, navigating the recruitment process and translating military experience into a corporate environment.

To be matched with a buddy, please provide:

• Service history (Service, Trade, SERCAT and discharge details)
• Role(s) of interest
• CV and/or cover letter
• Preferred contact method and time
• Any additional information that may help us find a suitable match.

We'll do our best to connect you with a ‘buddy’ who has a similar service background or works in a similar area of the business.

Please note: The Veteran Buddy Program is a volunteer employee-led initiative run through our Military & Mates Employee Advocacy Group (EAG). It operates separately from Westpac's Talent Acquisition team and is designed to provide additional peer support and guidance throughout your application journey.

As our buddies volunteer their time, we encourage you to get in touch well before the advertised application closing date.

Support Once You Join Westpac

When you join Westpac, you'll have access to our Military & Mates Employee Advocacy Group (EAG), which provides opportunities to:

• Connect with fellow veterans, reservists, families and allies across the Group
• Build professional networks and community connections
• Share experiences and learn from others who have transitioned from military to corporate careers
• Access mentoring and development opportunities where appropriate
• Contribute to initiatives that support the veteran community across Westpac.

Our goal is to help create a supportive and inclusive environment where veterans and reservists can thrive and build successful careers at Westpac.

Step 2: Connect with a Veteran Buddy (optional)

If you'd like additional support, you can connect with a ‘buddy’ from our Military & Mates Employee Advocacy Group (EAG) through our Veteran Buddy Program.

Our buddies are Westpac employees who have served in the Australian Defence Force and volunteer their time to share insights about working at Westpac, navigating the recruitment process and transitioning military experience into a corporate environment.

Please note that this is a voluntary, employee-led initiative and operates separately from Westpac's Talent Acquisition team.

Step 3: Submit your application

Apply for the role through our careers site. During the application process, you'll have the opportunity to identify if you have served in the Australian Defence Force or are the partner of a current or former serving member.
