Before you apply for a Westpac Hybrid Car Loan

Your eligibility

You must:

  • Be 18 years or older and hold a current Australian driver licence or learner's permit 
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen OR;
  • Be an Australian permanent resident and hold an acceptable visa (PDF 489KB) OR;
  • Be a non-resident or migrant and hold an acceptable visa (PDF 489KB), with a minimum 1 year before expiry
  • Have a fixed, verifiable Australian address
  • Receive a regular, verifiable Australian taxable income

Your car's eligibility

As your car is used as a guarantee for your loan, it must:

  • Appear as hybrid in our list of eligible electric or hybrid vehicles (PDF 364KB)
  • Be 7 years old or less at the time of loan application
  • Be imported by the manufacturer
  • Never been written off, even if it was repaired
  • Be comprehensively insured, with Westpac showing as the financier

How to apply for a Westpac Hybrid Car Loan

1. Check eligibility

Make sure that you and your car meet the requirements.

2. Simple application 

Complete online application: To make it faster, we'll fill in the information we have about you if you're an existing customer.

Submit application: In 60 seconds, you'll know if you're conditionally approved, which means you know how much you could borrow.

3. Found the car you want? 

Give us your car details: We'll need to verify the information before final approval.

We'll email you: To confirm if your application's been approved. 

Review and accept contract: You can do this securely online. We'll then transfer the loan funds to the seller. If you've opted to borrow more than the value of your car, the remaining funds will be transferred to your nominated account.

 


Frequently asked questions

A balloon payment is a lump sum paid at the end of your loan term and is usually charged by car dealers. With a Westpac Hybrid Car Loan, there's no balloon payment - you'll fully pay off your loan and own the car by the end of the loan term.

If you send the following details to us while waiting for your car to be delivered, you can finalise your loan and start making repayments:

  • Dealer’s licence number
  • Your name and address per your application
  • Car year, make, model, body type, badge
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or chassis number

  • Engine number
  • Registration plate and expiry date (if purchasing a used vehicle, demo model or auction)
Car registration certificate or latest renewal notice with the following information:
  • Current expiry date 
  • Seller’s name
  • Vehicle year, make and model (per your registration documents) 
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or chassis number
  • Engine number
  • Registration number plate 
Note:  Handwritten dealer invoices are acceptable provided no amendments have been made. Note: Transfer of registration forms are not accepted.

If you already have finance for your electric or hybrid car with Westpac or a different lender, you can apply to refinance with a Westpac Hybrid Car Loan if you and your car meet our eligibility criteria. If your car loan is with another lender, a statement from the lender on the amount you still owe is required.

#Prepayment fee: If you choose a term greater than 2 years for a Westpac Personal Loan, and pay it out in less than 2 years, there is a prepayment fee of $175. This fee is waived if you pay out your personal loan by re-financing to another Westpac personal loan.

The loan amount may exceed the vehicle's market value, as reported by Redbook, to cover the purchase price of the vehicle and other expenses.
