Technology is helping criminals operate faster, at greater scale and with increasing sophistication.

 

AI can be used to mimic voices, create convincing messages and make scams appear legitimate. Westpac has warned that AI-powered impersonation scams, fake investment opportunities and business email compromise attacks are likely to increase.

 

For businesses, strong controls matter more than ever. Independent verification processes, staff awareness and robust security practices can help prevent costly mistakes.

 

2. Operational resilience is a competitive advantage

Customers expect services to work whenever and wherever they need them. At the same time, businesses are becoming more reliant on technology, data and complex networks of providers.

 

As a result, resilience is moving from an operational issue to a strategic priority.

 

The most resilient organisations understand their critical services, regularly test response plans and prepare for severe but plausible disruptions. Success is measured by how effectively a business continues serving customers when problems occur.
