School Based Traineeships

Where you will inspire, and be inspired

Westpac Group offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students the opportunity to kick start a career in banking and finance with a School Based Traineeship. The Traineeship gives students the opportunity to gain paid work experience for Years 11 and 12, through training that counts towards their HSC or equivalent.

School Based Trainees will develop practical workplace skills, earn an income, and obtain a nationally accredited qualification (Certificate II in Business Services). Once the Traineeship is completed students can further their qualification, find a permanent employment opportunity within Westpac Group or a University Internship through higher education.

Completion of the Traineeship leads to a Certificate III in Financial Services or Business Services and 1 year’s paid work experience in one of our Branches or offices. Candidates are expected to have had some prior work experience, though not necessarily in a relevant role or industry.

Once the program is completed Trainees can further their qualification, find a permanent employment opportunity within Westpac Group or a University Internship through higher education.
