All in a day’s work: Levy’s rise to global stage

02:39pm October 09 2019

“It’s definitely helped shape who I am today,” Matt Levy says of his childhood.

Paralympic gold medallist Matt Levy has never shied away from a challenge.

And despite already competing in four Paralympic Games, he’s training as hard as ever ahead of the 2020 Games in Tokyo while also juggling his part-time job as a business implementation manager at Westpac.

“It was a pretty rough beginning. I guess it’s definitely helped shape who I am today,” he recalls of being born 15 weeks premature in 1987 and having ongoing operations to treat his vision impairment and cerebral palsy.

After initially speaking with Levy in 2017 ahead of the World Championships in Mexico City, Westpac Wire spent a day with him to see how he manages time and various responsibilities. He says having managers who embrace flexible working arrangements is important but giving people with disabilities an opportunity in the first place is critical.

Josh Wall is the Head of Video at Westpac Wire. He also worked across numerous News Corp mastheads in Sydney as a presenter, producer, writer and video journalist. Josh is originally from Perth, Western Australia where he began his career by co-creating a video magazine that focused on music and the arts.
