Temporarily increasing contactless ‘tap-and-go’ card limits FAQs
This change is being introduced to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Simply advise customers to continue to follow the EFTPOS terminal prompts.
The EFTPOS terminal will no longer require a PIN for contactless transactions under $200. Please note the functionality may not work for all customers as the authentication requires a combination of the EFTPOS terminal software, the card being used and the card scheme.
The testing of this update across our EFTPOS terminal fleet is underway. We are prioritising the roll out to merchants who have been deemed essential services during the COVID-19 crisis. Essential services include supermarkets, pharmacies and medical providers.
There will be no change in liability to you for fraudulent transactions.
At this stage there are no changes to fraud rules and chargeback rights.
Follow our easy two-step process to help reduce the risk of transferring COVID-19:
Clean your EFTPOS terminal by gently wiping it with a lightly dampened microfibre cloth.
Disinfect your EFTPOS terminal using an alcohol-based wipe or an alcohol-based cleaner on a microfibre cloth. Do not spray, coat or pour any cleaning fluid directly onto your device.
And remember to encourage your customers to use contactless ‘tap-and-go’ payments where possible.
