What our intern alumni have to say
I studied a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney and in my spare time love to travel, catch up with friends and stay active through running and social sport. I was fortunate to join Westpac as a summer intern in the Health team within the Corporate & Institutional Bank, where I got hands on experience quickly – even attending a client meeting on day one. In the Healthcare team, I was grateful to work with experienced leaders who were both great teachers to learn from, and thoughtful in supporting my development – ensuring I had exposure to new deals, different products and ongoing relationships with existing clients. Beyond my immediate team, I was supported by the intern managers and my grad buddy who were always available to answer questions.
Over the 10 weeks, I developed tangible credit analysis skills and became more comfortable with financial modelling, industry research, and legal documentation – allowing me to progress from assisting others in the team to taking ownership over a complete end-to-end review. Overall, the internship stood out to me because of its flexibility, where you are encouraged to explore areas you are interested in and supported with learning and skill development throughout so that you can meaningfully contribute as you progress.
Since rolling off the internship and completing University, I have returned to Westpac as a Corporate & Institutional Banking Graduate – where I now have the opportunity to develop a wider variety of experience through rotations across different sectors and product groups within CIB. I’ve found there are numerous opportunities available to you as an intern or graduate, and every effort is made to support you with your growth.
Jack, 2023 Summer Intern, 2024 CIB Grad
I studied a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Bachelor of Information Systems at the University of New South Wales. Outside of work I love to play sport, travel and take my dog to the beach.
I was previously a summer intern and also had the opportunity to work across a breadth of initiatives in CIB before moving into the graduate program.
I was lucky enough to join a team where my development was supported from day one, especially through the guidance of my buddy and intern manager. The work itself is dynamic in nature however what I enjoyed most was all the informal coffee runs and getting to know the team on a more personal level!
For me, Westpac stood out for its supportive culture, exposure to an ever-changing industry and the opportunity for continued development through exposure to the challenging work undertaken in the institutional bank. There is a plethora of opportunities available to you as a junior and Westpac is more than supportive in helping you explore the different divisions.
