What our intern alumni have to say
‘I have had the opportunity to be part of both the Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) Internship and Graduate Programs. I completed a Bachelor of Commerce and am currently studying for a Master of Applied Finance. Prior to joining, I worked part-time in the superannuation industry and applied to the CIB Summer Internship Program as a next step.
During the internship, I worked across the Health and Non-Bank Financial Institutions teams, gaining exposure to a new area of financial services and building a strong foundation in credit analysis. In the Health team, I supported analysts and relationship managers with client research, financial analysis, and credit-related work across the portfolio. My time in the Non-Bank Financial Institutions team provided exposure to a different client base and broadened my understanding of how credit analysis is applied across sectors.
I returned as a Graduate and rotated through the Energy, Infrastructure & Resources, Loan Syndications, and Credit Portfolio Management teams. These rotations provided a well-rounded understanding of the bank’s operations, while also allowing me to build strong relationships across CIB and the broader Westpac Group.
The internship and graduate programs offered a combination of on-the-job experience, formal training, and ongoing support from colleagues. These experiences have enabled me to further develop my technical and interpersonal skills, while confirming my interest in pursuing a career in long‑term career in finance.’
Since rolling off the program…
‘I am now an Associate Credit Analyst in the Energy, Infrastructure & Resources team within CIB. In this role, I support the management of a diverse portfolio of renewable, utilities, and infrastructure clients. My responsibilities include monitoring and analysing financial performance, management capability, industry dynamics and ESG risks, as well as assisting with the execution of new transactions to help clients achieve their strategic and financial objectives.
The program, along with the ongoing support of my managers, mentors, and colleagues, has encouraged me to continuously challenge myself and grow both professionally and personally.’
