The important information

Flexible 12 to 24-month program with a maximum of four rotations

Our flexible program consists of a maximum of four 6-month rotations across the various teams that make up our tech division. We’ll connect with you to understand your strengths and where you would like to grow to determine the right team for your first rotation. From there, your rotations, your journey, and the opportunities you decide to tackle are entirely up to you! After your first rotation we provide you the flexibility to shape the remainder of your time on the program to suit your ambitions and professional development goals. We provide support, guidance, and learning opportunities along the way. We will also support your transition to a permanent role once you find a position and a team you love.

Locations

Our rotational opportunities are primarily based in Sydney, NSW though our program does offer opportunities in Adelaide, SA; Melbourne, VIC; Brisbane, Gold Coast, QLD; and Perth, WA.

Rotation areas

The rotational opportunities offered to our Graduates are extensive and span the breadth and width of our Technology Division, and beyond. Rotational areas may include cyber security, data science, architecture, cloud, application development, service management, robotics, and projects, just to name a few. Our Tech Grads have the choice to select their rotations from a curated list or seek their own pathway aligned to their interests and passions. Either way, you’ll find the right technology flavours to suit your learning and career goals.

Future career opportunities

Our program is designed to provide breadth in your learning, development, and professional experience. You’ll be supported by Program Managers who are invested in your journey, leaders who are committed to your development, and peers who help you to explore and maximise the learning experience. Former graduates of our program currently hold positions including business analysts, security analysts, data analysts, engineers, solutions architects, developers, change and transformation managers, and many more.

Who we want

We are seeking original thinkers, innovators, and uncommon minds! We embrace diversity, recognising the value that comes with individual differences, qualities, ideas, and insights.

At Westpac you’ll be part of a group that is committed to building a sustainable future and encourages inclusion, diversity, and community involvement.

What our graduates have to say

I studied Civil Engineering & Finance from UNSW. I joined the Westpac Graduate Program on a whim as I was working in engineering but deeply unsatisfied. I saw that Westpac was looking for ‘uncommon minds’ so I decided to give it a shot given that I thought I was not the typical candidate for a technology role. It ended up being one of the best decisions I could make for myself.

The program allowed me to explore pretty much any part of the bank that I was interested in with no expectation of prior knowledge. I explored many areas of the bank including Data User Experience, Application Security, Mobile Security and Firewalls, and throughout the whole experience I was surrounded by people that prioritised me and my development. We also got amazing networking and conference days, social nights, volunteering opportunities and more that were super fun! I’ve also made some incredible friends within the program.

Since rolling off the program…

After the graduate program, I found a role within the Cloud & Network Security Team. I monitor the health and security of our employee mobile fleet and inbound firewalls and I’m doing a lot of testing on new tech, adjusting policies, report writing, risk analysis and generating new insights through data manipulation and analysis.

No day is a dull day within my role, and I’m grateful to be working in such a constantly changing landscape surrounded by some of the most supportive people I know. I’m grateful the Westpac Grad Program allowed me to flourish in a new industry, nurtured my growth and helped me truly unlock my potential, while also allowing me to make new friends and genuine connections.
