What is a PayID?

Now you can get paid in near real-time, using just your mobile number as a PayID.

Your family and friends are likely to have your mobile number in their phone contacts, so you can avoid being asked for bank account details, making it easier for them to pay you.

Plus, it’s now easier to make near real-time payments to friends or family using their PayID (mobile number, email address or phone number) if they have registered it, even if they bank elsewhere. To pay a business, you can make a payment to these PayID types as well as an ABN (which includes ACN, ARBN and ARSN) or Organisation ID.

Best of all, this new feature is available in Online Banking.

How to create a PayID

A PayID is created by linking your mobile number to an eligible Westpac account.

Westpac Mobile Banking App:

Sign in to Mobile Banking, select Self serve > Account Services > PayID / Pay to Mobile Settings > Register.

On a desktop:

Sign in to Westpac Live Online Banking, select Services & preferences > Account services > PayID / Pay to Mobile Settings > Register.

Using a PayID

You can now ask other people to pay you directly to your registered mobile number, instead of your BSB and account number.

You can also pay to another person's PayID: mobile number, email address, ABN (which includes ACN, ARBN and ARSN), phone number and Organisation ID.

You'll be able to include a longer description with the transaction#.

More information

Available now in your business profile in Westpac Live is the ability to make Osko payments to BSB and account numbers and PayIDs (mobile number, email address, ABN (which includes ACN, ARBN and ARSN), phone number and Organisation ID).

When the ABN PayID registration functionality becomes available at a later date, you will be able to create a PayID with your ABN and when customers need to pay you, they can use your ABN instead of your BSB and account number. PayID is an easy way to communicate your account details.

How will PayID and fast Osko help my business?

Manage your cash flow better

  • Get access to money fast through the receipt of cleared funds in near real-time.
  • Hold onto your money longer by paying in real-time on the due date.

Reduce payment errors

PayID payments will automatically display the recipient name before you authorise the payment. This may reduce the potential for misdirected payments.

Improved reconciliations

Payers will have more room to provide information to help you easily identify specific transactions. This may save time on tedious reconciliations and allow you more time to focus on your core business.

Use your mobile number as a PayID for Business Accounts

You can also create a PayID using your mobile if you sign in as a personal customer to view your business accounts in Online Banking. Remember, your mobile number can only be linked as a PayID to one account. This means if you register your mobile number to your personal account, you'll have to change the account linked to your PayID from your personal account to your eligible business account before using your mobile for business payments.

What is Osko?

Osko by BPAY® allows near real-time payments to be made between eligible accounts at participating financial institutions, 24/7 – even on weekends and public holidays.

Payments to PayIDs are fast Osko payments. Payments to a BSB and account number will automatically be processed as Osko if both parties have eligible Osko accounts.

You will see the transaction appear with a payment method of Osko or the Osko logo when you make or receive an Osko payment.

Frequently asked questions

Things you should know

*Fast or real-time payments are sent and received using Osko by BPAY® and can be addressed to either a PayID or a BSB and account number. Real-time payments require both the payer and payee to have Osko enabled accounts.

Personal customers can send and receive fast Osko payments to and from participating financial institutions with an eligible account (i.e. a personal transaction account).

Payments may take longer in some instances, such as where there is a technical interruption to the service, there is a payment to a first time payee or when the payment is caught for additional security screening.

The PayID types available to you may vary depending on your customer profile. If you register your mobile as a PayID, it needs to be the same as your SMS Protect CodeTM.

When your PayID is registered, your details (including your name) will be available to people who use the service and enter your mobile phone PayID.

Westpac Live Online Banking is only available for use by Westpac Australia customers. Internet connection is needed to access Westpac Online and Mobile Banking. Normal mobile data charges apply.
