Getting the most out of a Westpac Choice account

To get the most out of your Westpac Choice everyday account you need to explore its full potential. So, here’s how to take advantage of our most popular bank account.

Withdrawing and depositing your cash

With your Westpac Debit Mastercard® linked to your Choice account, you’ll pay no ATM withdrawal fees at most major bank ATMs in Australia (including Westpac, St.George, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA).

To find the closest ATM to you simply select the ATM locator in our mobile app and it’ll bring up Westpac Group ATMs near you.

All our ATMs have audio capability, and screens can be displayed in English, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Korean, Vietnamese, Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia, Arabic, Italian and Japanese.

Our ATMs aren’t just for withdrawing cash. You can deposit cash and cheques at select Westpac ATMs into an eligible Westpac account without a card. Time to empty that heavy moneybox? You can also make coin deposits at our Coin Deposit Machines (CDMs).

ATM access at home and abroad

If you don’t have to pay ATM withdrawal fees in Australia, why should you pay them overseas? The Global ATM Alliance lets you avoid ATM withdrawal fees at partner bank ATMs overseas.

When you get cash out at one of the Global Alliance ATMs worldwide, you won’t be charged an ATM withdrawal fee. And just like at home, you can use the Westpac mobile app ATM locator or find the nearest Global Alliance ATM to where you are.

No card? No worries!

Heading out and leaving your wallet behind is no longer the drama it once might have been, thanks to Cardless Cash.

Now you can get cash out from a Westpac, St.George, BankSA, Bank of Melbourne, or select Westpac Group partner ATMs without needing your debit card – instead you can generate a cash code from the Westpac mobile banking app and use it at an ATM to get cash out (just follow the prompts on the screen).

If a friend or family gets stranded without cash, you can generate a cash code and send it to them via SMS, so they won’t get caught out either.

Sending money to friends

Getting money to a friend or someone else is quick and seamless if they are registered for PayID®. All you need is their Australian mobile number or the PayID identifier that’s linked to their Aussie bank account.

On the flipside, if you’re a Westpac customer, you can nominate a Westpac account (such as your Westpac Choice account) and register your mobile number – that’s all people need to know to transfer funds to you.

Discounts, rewards and offers

Did you know your Debit Mastercard linked to your Choice account comes with a suite of discounts, rewards and promotional offers?

You can earn bonus cashback when you use your linked debit card at ShopBack – an online shopping and rewards platform with over 4,000 brands including The Iconic, Amazon and eBay. Head to the Rewards and Offers hub in the Westpac app to find more everyday deals and flash sales.

Online banking made simple

Register for Westpac Online Banking to manage your money from our mobile app or via your laptop or desktop. You can pay bills, make recurring payments, and transfer funds between your accounts or to others.

You can also access all your Westpac cards in one safe location, search for past transactions and download recent transactions or proof of balance reports.

Other features to keep in mind include the ability to access interest and tax summaries for open and closed accounts, giving shared access to your account, or finding a statement for a closed account.

Using Australia’s number one banking app

There’s a range of tools in the Westpac mobile app – Australia’s number one banking app – to help manage your money when you’re out and about. Set up direct debit payments for regular bills, or transfer money quickly from your transaction account to your savings account.

With Quick Balance, you can check the funds in your Westpac Choice account with just a simple swipe in the app – you don’t even need to sign in.

You can use Quick Transfer to move money between your accounts by simply dragging and dropping the amount between accounts (you authorise the transfer using your PIN or fingerprint).

If you want to check on recent transactions, just tap on the Quick Balance tiles.

You can also split group expenses with up to 10 groups, each containing up to 20 people. Use the app to keep track of who’s paid and send SMS reminders to those who haven’t.

Heading overseas? No need to give us a call – just use the app to give us the details of where you’re going and for how long. That way we can keep an eye on your accounts for any suspicious activity.

Budgeting from the palm of your hand

A simple dashboard in the Westpac mobile app gives you good visibility of your ins and outs, helps you track your spending each month, and compares your spending across different categories.

There’s also a Savings Finder tool that looks at your annual spend on bills and subscriptions so you can determine how much you could save by cancelling outgoing payments or cutting back. And you can set up the Bills Calendar to send reminders about upcoming bills to help you stay on top of expenses.

Keeping your money safe from scams and frauds

All Westpac Choice account holders benefit from the security features offered by Australia’s first bank. These include 24/7 fraud monitoring and a Fraud Money Bank Guarantee, which ensures you’ll be reimbursed for any unauthorised card transactions.

On your linked digital Debit Mastercard, the dynamic CVC changes every 24 hours for security purposes, too.

To sum up

There’s a reason why Westpac Choice is our most popular account: a linked debit card for withdrawing money at an ATM or for shopping in-store or online, ShopBack benefits and discounts, fee-free cash withdrawals, and access to Australia's number one banking app.
