What do I need to know about the fees charged by other banks in relation to foreign cheques?
Our correspondent clearing bank fees are set out in the below table. Please note these figures only apply to foreign cheques* and do not apply to other international products (e.g. International Payments). These fees are subject to change so you will need to refer to this page for the latest fees. These fees are not inclusive of the issuing bank’s charges which may differ depending on exchange rates. The bank that issued the cheque may apply further fees or charges. To find out more information about these charges, you will need to contact the issuing party and/or issuing bank.

Things you should know
*From 30 April 2021, Westpac branches are no longer able to process foreign currency cheques to your account. If you have an ongoing need to receive funds in foreign currency, you can receive payments through an international money transfer directly into your account. Conditions Relating to the Collection of Foreign Items
Any foreign exchange rate conversion of the proceeds will be calculated at the buying rate of the day the collection proceeds are credited to your account, which can take approximately 3 to 6 weeks, but is dependent on the processing times of the overseas bank. All items credited are subject to dishonour at any time in the future, even after you withdraw against the proceeds of the item. If the cheque is dishonoured, we will return the value of the cheque (in the original currency) to the overseas bank by debiting your nominated account. Depending on the foreign exchange rate applicable on the day the funds are returned, the amount debited from your account may be greater than the value of the item credited. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any delay or error in presenting your cheque for collection if such delay or error was caused by circumstances beyond our control and not due to any default, misconduct or negligence by us.
In the event of a dishonour, we may charge you $35. The other bank may charge additional fees for processing and dishonours. Any fees levied by the other bank in connection with the transaction will be deducted from the proceeds and the net amount will be credited to the above account when the proceeds are received from the drawee bank. If a dishonour occurs, fees will be charged to the account nominated on this form.
