Frequently asked questions
A merchant facility is a payment system that allows you to accept payments for your business. Examples include a mobile EFTPOS machine, an EFTPOS terminal that integrates with a point of sale (POS) system, or turning your phone into an EFTPOS terminal through a payment acceptance app. There are also online payment systems that enable a business to take one-off and recurring payments from bank accounts, and debit and credit cards.
Depending on the nature of your business, merchant facility payments could occur over the phone, online, at the counter, at the table, or on the go in a mobile business.
There’s no simple answer to that question as the costs of having an EFTPOS machine or an eCommerce payment gateway can vary by system, volume of transactions, etc. Some payment solutions may work on a ‘pay as you go’ basis (such as our flat rate EFTPOS pricing option) while others may involve custom pricing based on anticipated turnover.
To get an idea of the cost of a merchant service that matches your specific needs, request a callback from a member of our merchant services team.
It depends on the payment solution:
EFTPOS machines
You can access your daily takings straight away through instant settlement. Settle your terminal(s) before 9.30pm (Sydney time) each evening and the funds will appear in your Westpac business transaction account instantly. Instant settlement is only available for Mastercard®, Visa® and eftpos transactions.
EFTPOS Air
Same day settlement happens after the business day cut-off, subject to availability. For EFTPOS Air, the cut-off is 7 days a week at 8.50 pm (Sydney time). The settlement must be to an eligible Westpac business transaction account.
For EFTPOS Air and EFTPOS Now with Presto, you'll need a Westpac business transaction account. For other EFTPOS machines, you'll require an eligible Westpac transaction account if you would like to enjoy the benefit of receiving your settlement on the same day settlement on the same day.
The Presto app connects your EFTPOS Now machine wirelessly to over 130 leading POS systems.
No. EFTPOS Now with Presto connects to the bank via Wi-Fi or ethernet connection.
