Step 1: Required reading
Ensure you have read and understood the SSCM Policy (PDF 40kb) before entering into a supply contract with Westpac. It is also recommended you read the Frequently Asked Questions about SSCM (PDF 114kb).
Step 2: Download the SSCM Code of Conduct Toolkit
First save the toolkit before completing it. Opening the file straight from the website will disable some of its functionality and you will not be able to save any changes you make.
Microsoft Office 2007 users: ensure you always save the file in a Microsoft Excel 2003 compatible format. Saving it in another format will also disable its functionality.
Download the SSCM Code of Conduct Toolkit (XLS 600kb).
Step 3: Complete the SSCM Code of Conduct Toolkit
Ensure all macros are enabled when you open the file and email sscm@westpac.com.au if you have any issues with access.
The person in your organisation accountable for sustainability should complete, or supervise the completion of, the SSCM Code of Conduct Toolkit. This includes:
- A risk assessment.
- The SSCM Code of Conduct Compliance Checklist.
- A Remedial Action Plan to remedy gaps in sustainability, where necessary.
- A Certificate of Compliance with the SSCM Code of Conduct, valid for 1 year.
Step 4: Forward completed toolkit to Westpac
Email the SSCM team with your completed SSCM Code of Conduct Toolkit. We will evaluate your response and contact you if you are identified as a higher risk and/or high spend supplier to Westpac (as you will be required to complete the SSCM Questionnaire as an additional screening process).
More information
Background information on the SSCM Code of Conduct
From 1 January 2008, suppliers are required to be compliant with the standards set out in our SSCM Code of Conduct. Our SSCM Code of Conduct specifies the practices we favour in our suppliers and those we will not do without - our minimum standards.
It addresses legislative requirements and responsible business practices across the following areas:
- Labour and workplace management - employee working conditions and human rights
- Occupational health and safety - providing a safe working environment
- Risk management - providing business continuity and protecting employees and the local community
- The environment - awareness and management of material environmental issues
- Corporate governance and ethics - standards of practice and appropriate transparency
- Supply chain - management of the suppliers' own suppliers
- Community engagement - considering local issues and needs.

Remedial Action Plans
A Remedial Action Plan (RAP) template is built into the SSCM Code of Conduct Toolkit and includes a broad list of possible continuous improvement activities for suppliers with gaps in sustainability performance. These gaps are to be remedied within the first 12 months of signing a contract with Westpac.
Suppliers are responsible for preparing a RAP and should put forward other, more specific activities wherever possible.
Companies supplying to Westpac New Zealand
At present, companies supplying to Westpac New Zealand are not required to comply with the SSCM Code of Conduct.
Contact the SSCM team
Send an email to the SSCM team or contact the Westpac representative responsible for your RFP or contract negotiation process.
Please note that these SSCM materials may be viewed by companies not actively involved in supply chain discussions with Westpac, however unsolicited SSCM assessments should not be forwarded to Westpac.
