Our Community
Support for Indigenous Australia
The Westpac Group acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to them and their cultures, and to the elders both past and present.
As Australia’s oldest bank and company, we bear a special responsibility in the community for the reconciliation journey. The Westpac Group’s vision for reconciliation is to build a better future for all Australians helping our customers, communities and our people to grow and prosper.
We invest our expertise and enthusiasm through:
- Strengthening local communities - over 450 employees have taken part in our Cape York Partnership and more recently in Redfern, NSW.
- Employment opportunities for future leaders - our employment focus covers initiatives from school to work transitions, recruitment, training and mentoring.
- Tailored financial services - our Indigenous Capital Assistance Scheme has been in place since 2004.
- Building relationships - through our partnership with Australian Indigenous Minority Supply Council, we are committed to providing Indigenous-owned companies with greater opportunities.
Additionally, our Reconciliation Action Plan and Group Statement (PDF 49kb) set out the achievements, intentions and specific goals for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
