Jan 2022 - Scam email

Your Westpac Bank Account is temporarily suspended 

This email advises there has been irregular activity on your Westpac account, therefore your account has been restricted.

The link reads "To restore your account click here" and will take you to a phishing website requesting personal information like sign in, password and credit card details. 

Do not click the links in this email or enter any personal information. 

 


Jan 2022 - Scam SMS

Westpac: We have temporarily frozen your account due to suspicious activity

This SMS advises that Westpac has temporarily frozen your account due to suspicious activity and to click on a link to unlock. 

The link takes you to a fake sign in page (phishing website) which attempts to gain your personal information by asking for banking or personal identification information.

Westpac will never ask you for this type of information via SMS. Please delete this message.

 


Dec 2021 - Scam SMS

There is a high risk transfer in your account

This phishing SMS has been sent advising that there has been a high risk transfer in your account and to click on a link to cancel. 

By clicking the link you will be taken to a fake sign in page (phishing website) which requests your personal banking information.

Westpac will never ask you for this type of information via SMS. Please delete this message.

 


Nov 2021 - Scam email

Subject: Your Westpac Online Banking is temporarily locked

This email advises your access to Digital Banking has been temporarily locked. The link will take you to a phishing website which may ask for personal information like sign in, password and credit card details. 

Do not click the links in this email or enter your personal information. Westpac will never ask you to click a link to sign in to your online banking. When receiving genuine communications, we will always ask you to sign in securely by typing westpac.com.au into your browser or using the Westpac app.


Nov 2021 - Scam email 

Subject: Your Westpac Online Banking is temporarily locked

This email advises your access to Digital Banking has been temporarily locked. The link will take you to a phishing website which may ask for personal information like sign in, password and credit card details. 

Do not click the links in this email or enter your personal information. Westpac will never ask you to click a link to sign in to your online banking. When receiving genuine communications, we will always ask you to sign in securely by typing westpac.com.au into your browser or using the Westpac app.

Westpac Bank: Suspicious login detected on your account

This SMS has been sent advising that there has been a suspicious login detected on your Internet Banking and to click on a link to secure. 

By clicking the link you will be taken to a fake sign in page (phishing website) which requests your personal banking information.

Westpac will never ask you for this type of information via SMS. Please delete this message.


Oct 2021 - Scam SMS

For security, your access to Digital Banking has been blocked

This phishing SMS has been sent advising that your Internet Banking has been suspended and to click on a link to reactivate. 

By clicking the link you will be taken to a fake sign in page (phishing website) which requests your personal banking information.

Westpac will never ask you for this type of information via SMS. Please delete this message.


Sep 2021 - Scam SMS

Westpac: A $XXX standing order was made

This phishing SMS has been sent advising that a standing order has been made and to click on a link to cancel the order. 

By clicking the link you will be taken to a fake sign in page (phishing website) which requests your personal banking information.

Westpac will never ask you for this type of information via SMS. Please delete this message.


Sep 2021 - Scam SMS

Alert: A $XXX was blocked from your card

This phishing SMS has been sent using a sender name of "Westpac" to convince you this is a trusted message. Be aware that your phone will group this with legitimate messages sent from Westpac.

The message advises your card may be blocked. By clicking the link you will be taken to a fake sign in page (phishing website) which requests your personal banking information.

Westpac will never ask you for this type of information via SMS. Please delete this message.


Sep 2021 - Scam email

Subject: Your access to Digital Banking has been blocked

This email advises your access to Digital Banking has been blocked. The link will take you to a phishing website which may ask for personal information such as online banking sign in details and/or credit card details.

Do not click the links in this email or enter your personal information. Westpac will never ask you to click a link to sign in to your online banking. When receiving genuine communications, we will always ask you to sign in securely by typing westpac.com.au into your browser or using the Westpac mobile banking app.


Jul 2021 - Scam email

Subject: Amazon Cyber Crime Department

This email is received after a caller advises of an issue with your Amazon service. During the process to resolve this you allow the caller to remotely access your device and are advised there were unknown IP's accessing your device. You may have been advised this is part of a "sting operation" and not to share details of the activity during the call.

Should you have performed this activity, you should turn off the computer you provided remote access to and contact us immediately. If you have shared remote access and signed into your online banking your personal and financial information could be at risk of scam activity.
