No. Your card has to be within 4cm of the contactless terminal and held for more than half a second and the merchant must have first entered the amount for you to approve.

*As at 1 April 2023, the contactless ‘tap and go’ transaction limit on Westpac Mastercard cards is changing back to $100 from the temporary limit of $200. This is progressively being rolled out, and will be available on certain Westpac Mastercard cards and payment terminals at certain retailers. Customers are encouraged to follow the prompts at each terminal to determine whether a PIN is required.
