Transport for NSW Contactless Payments Trial

Westpac is participating in a Transport for NSW (TfNSW) contactless payments trial whereby customers can pay for a single trip fare by tapping on and off at the Opal card reader with their contactless enabled debit or credit card or mobile device instead of their Opal card.

The trial commenced in July 2017 on the Sydney Ferries F1 Manly Ferry Service with Mastercard.  From 12 March 2018, Amex and Visa will join the trial which will be expanded to include the entire Sydney Ferries network and the L1 Dulwich Hill Light Rail Line.  The trial is expected to run through 2018.

Customers can use their existing contactless enabled debit or credit card or mobile device at Opal card readers to tap on at the start of their journey and tap off with the same card or mobile device when they reach their destination (there is no need to tap off on the F1 Manly Ferry Service).

Tapping on with your card or mobile device will incur the full Adult Opal single trip fare (concession and children’s fares are not available).

You can only purchase one fare per card or mobile device per trip.  Families or groups wishing to pay for multiple fares in one transaction must purchase an Opal single trip ticket or Opal card for each individual in the group.
