How does the travel money card work?
The Westpac Global Currency Card is a re-loadable prepaid Visa card that you can use overseas or to shop online from home. You can load up to 5 different currencies at any time (with 11 currencies to choose from) and you can top it up at any time.
What about using the card?
If you're overseas you can withdraw cash using your travel card at any ATM. And if you use one of over 50,000 Global Alliance ATMs you'll pay $0 ATM fee1.
If you're wanting to shop overseas you can use it wherever Visa is accepted - with the benefit of using your own money. You'll also pay no additional foreign exchange fees for using supported currencies loaded on your card2.
How about shopping online on overseas sites?
This is where the Westpac Global Currency Card can come into its own. Not only will you not pay the 3% foreign transaction fee (because you already have that currency on your card)2, you will also have the protection Visa offers when making purchases online3.
How does the card know which currency to use?
When making a purchase, the travel card will automatically use the currencies in which the transaction is made if the currency is loaded on your card. If it's not loaded on the card, the first available currency (according to the currency order you set up) will be used.
Using the app
You can use the Westpac Global Currency Card app to manage your travel money on the go. Use it to:
- View currency balances and transactions
- Transfer money between currencies
- Change currencies
- Update account profile
- Change username and password
How secure is the travel money card?
Your money is protected by Chip and PIN card security, and includes the protection of Visa Zero Liability Policy, protecting you from fraudulent charges or unauthorised purchases3.
What currencies are available?
You can choose from 11 different supported currencies (including Australian dollars). Aside from Australian dollars (which you'll always need to have loaded) you can choose up to four other currencies at any one time. The currencies available are:·
- Australian Dollars (AUD)
- US Dollars (USD)
- Euros (EUR)
- Great British Pounds (GBP)
- New Zealand Dollars (NZD)
- Canadian Dollars (CAD)
- Japanese Yen (JPY)
- Thai Baht (THB)
- South African Rand (ZAR)
- Singapore Dollars (SGD)
- Hong Kong Dollars (HKD)
