Westpac and Code Camp offer free one-hour coding sessions for Victorian families

13 July 2020

In partnership with our STEM partner, Code Camp, Westpac is offering Victorians impacted by the COVID-19 stage three restrictions free online technology education sessions for the additional week of school holidays.

As part of the offer, 20,000 Code Camp one-hour coding sessions are available to Victorian students from Tuesday 14 July until Friday 17 July. The sessions are designed to help children develop their technology skills and ignite their passion for a career in technology as they learn how to code.

Children will also get the opportunity to create their own online game with awesome features including zombies, unicorns, invisibility cloaks and so much more. The sessions are instructor-led and entirely virtual, ranging from block coding to JavaScript, and are aimed at school children aged 7-12 years old.

Code Camp is a provider of school holiday and after-school programs that teach students how to design, code and build apps. Founded in 2013, Code Camp has helped over 100,000 kids to become digital creators and innovators during their face-to-face programs. Their shift to a digital program during COVID-19 has allowed them to inspire and educate even more Australians, while continuing to grow their business.

Westpac’s State General Manager for Victoria, Mark Melvin, said: “It’s a challenging time for Victorians, especially for parents of school age children in areas with stage three restrictions.

“As a small gesture of support for Victorian parents facing an extra week of school holidays, we’re pleased to offer free coding sessions through Code Camp and help engage young people with technology. Learning to code is a fun way for kids to test their creativity and problem-solving skills,” he said.

Westpac Chief Information Officer, Consumer and Enterprise, Anastasia Cammaroto, said: “Westpac is committed to helping equip children with valuable technology skills through our sponsorship of Code Camp. It’s important that we engage children early in technology to help open up a workforce of the future that embraces the digital revolution,” she said.
