Westpac awarded highest accolade for LGBTI inclusion

25 May, 2018

Westpac Group was today awarded a Platinum status employer ranking at the 2018 Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) Awards in recognition for its commitment in fostering equality and inclusion for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) employees.

Platinum is the highest accolade that an employer can receive in the AWEI and is held by employers who demonstrate exemplary and ongoing LGBTI inclusive workplace practices.

Christine Parker, Westpac’s Group Executive Human Resources and executive sponsor of Westpac’s LGBTIQ employee-led action group GLOBAL, said the bank is really proud to be recognised for its strong performance in the AWEI over the last six years.

“Westpac is committed to equality and inclusion and this award is wonderful recognition of our focus on building a safe and respectful work environment for all LGBTIQ employees.”

Westpac has developed a range of initiatives focusing on inclusion, including Australia’s first LGBTIQ corporate summit in Sydney in 2017. As well as a strong focus to grow its remote and regional reach of LGBTIQ inclusion so that all employees feel supported no matter where they go to work.

“As Australia’s oldest company, having celebrated 200 years in operation, we have a proud history as a corporate leader of LGBTIQ
inclusion for both our employees, customers, and the communities we serve,” Mrs Parker said.

This is the sixth year Westpac Group has participated in the AWEI awards. Westpac was awarded Australian employer of the year in 2016; Employee network of the year 2015; Executive sponsor of the year (Brad Cooper) in 2015; and Ally of the year (Kristina Bennett) in 2015.
