Westpac provides assistance to customers affected by NSW Government Buyback Scheme (Mr Fluffy homeowners)

2 August 2016

Westpac announced today that it is committed to helping customers who are affected by the NSW Government Buyback Scheme of houses affected by loose fill asbestos insulation (Mr Fluffy homeowners).

Westpac will waive any bank fees and charges for customers who will be participating in the buyback scheme and has set up a dedicated hotline which customers can call to discuss their situation and options. The hotline number is 1800 630 487.

Westpac State General Manager, Regional NSW & ACT, James Cudmore, said: "We are aware of the financial and emotional challenges on our customers who have 'Mr Fluffy' homes and we are here to provide practical solutions to help them.

"While every customer's situation will be different and their needs will vary, at the very minimum we will be relinquishing any fees and charges associated with participating in the buyback scheme, including waiving administration fees, break costs, and providing reduced rates for bridging finance.

"We are contacting affected home owners that we are aware of and encourage customers to contact us either through the hotline or calling their local branch so they can talk to a specialist and obtain information specific to their circumstance."
