Westpac named Socially Responsible Bank for third year running

4 June 2015

Westpac Group has been named Socially Responsible Bank of the Year in the 2015 Money Consumer Finance Awards, recognising the bank's social and environmental leadership for the third consecutive year.

This marks the fifth win of this annual award by Westpac Group since Money launched the category in 2008 to recognise financial institutions that are delivering significant sustainable outcomes for individuals and the wider community through their lending practices and commitment to social responsibility.

Commenting on the win, the judging panel - which included representatives from Green Cross Australia, Australian Ethical Investments and Social Enterprise Finance Australia - said Westpac "shines" when it comes to its visible public leadership.

The panel was impressed that social responsibility is clearly driven from Westpac's board and senior management down, with strong policy positions and CEO advocacy, and ambitious public social and environmental targets.

The award follows Westpac's ranking as the most sustainable bank globally in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and inclusion for the ninth time in the 'Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World', announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland earlier this year.

Westpac Group General Manager for Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, Carolyn McCann, congratulated Westpac's 40,000 employees for ensuring Westpac's sustainability performance continues to be rated so highly.

"This reflects the outstanding leadership shown by Westpac Group in delivering deep social and environmental impact to create a sustainable future for the people who bank with us, work with us, invest in us and are part of our broader communities."
