12 July 2013

Westpac Chief Executive, Gail Kelly, today announced the appointment of Gordon Goetzmann as its Chief Strategy Officer.

He joins Westpac on 1 November 2013 and will report to Mrs Kelly.

Mr Goetzmann has more than 25 years of global strategic consulting experience in banking and finance. He joins Westpac from First Manhattan Consulting Group (FMCG), a global leader in financial services consulting where, as Executive Vice President, he is currently co-head of the firm’s strategy practice.

Mrs Kelly said: “Gordon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role, including working with a number of financial institutions on a range of complex business assignments across the USA, Europe and Australia.

“Gordon’s expertise includes retail and corporate banking, online and direct banking as well as customer and commercial payments,” she said. “His deep skills in business and financial performance strategy, as well as experience in working with clients both in Australia and overseas in improving their cross-sell, implementing new mortgage origination strategies and designing and optimising information technology projects, will be a valuable addition to our strategy team.

“Gordon also understands the structural changes currently impacting the sector and their flow-on to regulation, productivity and balance sheet management.”

Mr Goetzmann joined FMCG in 1987, moving into investment banking from 1991 to 1993. Returning to FMCG in 1994 he became a partner in 1998 and was subsequently promoted to Managing Vice President in 2000 and Executive Vice President in 2007.

Mr Goetzmann has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from Cornell University.
