Where I can immerse myself in what I love

Meet Shay, a Westpac Branch Manager in Kin Kora QLD who's an 'accidental banker', but proud as punch of where she works and what she's achieved

Hi, I'm Shay,

It's funny how things work out. If I had to, I'd describe myself as an 'accidental banker'. I never imagined myself working in the financial services industry.

It was on a break from my career in the entertainment, sports and tourism industries when the idea to apply for a job with Westpac was born. I was up for a change and, I must confess, something to fill in the time until I returned to my old job.

Amazingly with no banking experience I got the gig and I haven't looked back. Starting in a part-time temporary teller role on Queensland's Sunshine Coast just over six years ago, I quickly moved to Team Assistant and Executive Assistant roles in Westpac Retail Bank. Now I am blessed to be Bank Manager at Kin Kora Westpac Branch in the stunning Central Whitsunday Region. Being right on the doorstep of Queensland's Great Barrier Reef I am spoiled to live and work, where amongst other things, I can enjoy scuba diving with my husband.

Westpac helps me to be a better me, at work and in my own personal life. I have learned how to be more effective in communications, how to be brave, how to work with people who approach things differently than I do, how to delegate, how to lead, and how to follow.

Above all, it's great to come to work with extremely talented and dedicated friends. They're simply awesome people who happen to be great bankers.

I didn't expect to, but I love my career with Westpac, and this company will now always be a part of me. You see, despite not being a 'banker' type, Westpac has accepted me and makes me want to give back to Westpac as much as Westpac gives to me.
