Steps to get started

You must have an existing Westpac credit card.

Step 1:

Prepare: Keep the information about your non-Westpac issued credit cards handy (e.g. card number and issuer details).

Step 2:

Consider: Think about how much you wish to transfer (up to two non-Westpac issued credit card balances).

Step 3:

Transfer: Submit the balance transfer form online. It may take up to three to five days to complete your balance transfer request.

Get the most from your balance transfer

  • Cancel other cards: Stay in control of your spending by cancelling your other non-Westpac-issued credit or store cards.
  • Set a payment reminder: Pay off your transferred balance before the offer rate ends by setting a payment reminder in your calendar.
  • Repayment flexibility: SmartPlan helps spilt your personal credit card repayments into manageable instalments. Set it up in Online Banking.
Frequently asked questions
false
Can I request a balance transfer using a Westpac debit card?

A debit card is tied to a transaction account with money in it (it's not debt). You can't transfer debt to your checking account.

If you have enough money in your transaction account to cover the balance of your credit card, it's best to pay it off because the balance on your credit card costs you a lot in interest charges each month.

What if I don't repay my transferred balances by the end of the offer period?
At the end of the credit card's promotional period, any remaining balance transferred amount that you’ve not repaid will be charged interest at the variable cash advance rate of your card.
Will I get my interest-free days if I use my card?
If your card has interest-free days on purchases, you will still benefit from these if you choose to have a balance transfer balance on the account.
