From French chateaus in the woodlands of the Loire Valley to a futuristic green oasis in the heart of Paris, the pandemic certainly hasn’t put an end to some grand preparations for the future of luxury travel. If anything, the top luxury hotels that are opening in 2022 have highlighted a need to craft unique, personalised encounters that cater to a variety of needs and to provide transformative spaces where people can experience elements of their surroundings. Be amazed by the latest concepts of designers and developers as they redesign the luxury experience.

The Madrid EDITION, Spain

The EDITION brand brings together the authenticity of Ian Schrager with the global expertise of Marriott International, resulting in a truly distinct offering in terms of its service, food, beverages and entertainment in the world’s leading cities. Each hotel provides the perfect marriage of personalised service and outstanding design to rest your eyes on as you explore the seductive, intimate spaces.

Set in a peaceful square in the heart of the Spanish capital, the Madrid EDITION provides easy access to the city’s ‘golden triangle of art’ and will reflect the cultural vibe within its sublime spaces. Highlights include a Sky Bar and rooftop terrace, a variety of unique dining options and 200 beautifully curated guestrooms and suites – some with a terrace. Similarly to the brand’s other hotels, the Madrid EDITION will be brought to life by its sophisticated luxury service. The opening is scheduled for early 2022, which will mark the second EDITION hotel in Spain.

1 Hotel Paris, France

Far from your average hotel, 1 Hotel Paris functions as the ‘green lung’ of the Paris Rive Gauche district with sustainability and innovation at the heart of this project by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Located on the left bank of the Seine River, the building – which is more like a surreal sculptural form – is distinct with its wooden panels, abundant terraces and lush greenery. Described as luxury eco, the hotel comprises 140 rooms, a rooftop restaurant, co-working space and a pool. A surprising aspect of the building is its ability to transform as the light shifts throughout the day and the intimate public garden within the centre of the complex.

Cosme Hotel, Kanava Hotels & Resort, Greece

Scheduled to open in May, Cosme Hotel is Kanava Hotels & Resorts’ latest project on the island of Paros, featuring 40 luxurious suites, a spectacular pool overlooking the Aegean Sea as well as outdoor wellness and fitness facilities. The company is renowned for its five-star hotels and exclusive Santorini villas, which reflect the local culture and architecture and where there is a core focus on holistic wellbeing. Cosme is additionally conveniently located on Agioi Anargyroi Beach within walking distance to the village of Naoussa, one of the most popular and attractive destinations in the Cyclades with its whitewashed architecture and cosy harbour.

However, the dining, lounge and bar areas are designed to encourage connection and conversation among guests while indulging in the delightful cuisine and exquisite cocktails at the outdoor bar and restaurant. Janu’s soulful spaces nurture the relationship to oneself and others.

Rosewood Doha, Qatar

Set in Lusail City, Qatar’s modern haven, Rosewood Doha is an ultra-luxury hotel housed in two distinct tower structures that are reminiscent of the coral reefs in the surrounding waters. Equipped with a helipad, eight impressive culinary destinations and a spa, Rosewood’s third venture in the Middle East will open its doors to guests and inhabitants, as its offering extends beyond its 185 guestrooms and suites – 173 serviced apartments and 300 residences cater to those who wish to experience the pinnacle of luxury living complete with bespoke services and facilities.

Guests can explore an organic farm, tennis and equestrian centres, an art gallery, medicinal garden and an Earth Lab to learn about conservation. What’s more, the unique setting featuring 13th century buildings brings these activities to life.

Managed by the award-winning Auberge Resorts Collection, the resort provides the perfect gateway into nature for city dwellers seeking outdoor adventures and seasonal activities.

Guests can choose from 65 bungalows, cottages and suites with orchards, wildflower fields, a farm and heirloom vegetable gardens on their doorstep. For wellness lovers the outdoor hot tubs, indoor saltwater pool and spa treatments are available while the tennis courts, hiking trails and rock climbing opportunities serve those looking for a bit more adventure. Through foraging, organic vegetable farming, cooking classes and picnics, the resort will also encourage its guests to have unique encounters with the farmland. And remarkably its location is only 90 minutes away from New York City.
