Velocity FAQs

We’re launching the Altitude Velocity rewards program to provide you with great new benefits and the ability to earn Velocity Points directly on eligible cards, rather than converting them from Altitude Points. 

No, Altitude Velocity is only available on the Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard and Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard.

However, Velocity Auto-Redemption is still available to Altitude Business cardholders. You can set up your account to automatically transfer your Altitude Points to Velocity Points at the end of your statement cycle. Visit altituderewards.com.au to set up Velocity Auto-Redemption.

I have a Westpac Altitude Rewards Card (excluding Altitude Business cardholders)

You can opt-out of this change and remain on the Altitude Rewards program. Simply contact the Altitude Rewards Centre on 1300 887 820 (available Monday to Friday, 8am – 8pm AEST) by 2 August 2019.

If you opt-out, you will continue to earn Altitude Points, however, you can still transfer your Altitude Points to Velocity Points whenever you like by making a one-off transfer at altituderewards.com.au.

If you choose to opt-in and change your mind at a later stage, you can reward switch back to Altitude Rewards whenever you like by calling Altitude Rewards Centre on 1300 887 820.


What if I have an American Express Westpac Altitude Card?
Refer to the American Express Westpac Altitude Cards FAQs below.

If you have another Altitude Platinum Mastercard or Altitude Black Mastercard that is not set up for Velocity Auto-Redemption, you may reward switch to Altitude Velocity by calling the Altitude Rewards Centre on 1300 887 820 (available Monday to Friday, 8am – 8pm AEST).

If you do not have one of the above credit cards, you will need to complete a product transfer to Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard or Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard and select Altitude Velocity as your rewards program.

Any Altitude Points already earned will remain on your Altitude Rewards account and will not be switched to Velocity Points.

Please note, your card account cannot be in breach of the Credit Card Conditions of Use and Altitude Terms and Conditions to be able to rewards switch or product transfer.


What if I have an American Express Westpac Altitude Card?

No, your credit card(s) will not be reissued and your credit card number won't change. You'll be able to continue using your credit card as normal.

If you opt-in to the change, any unused Altitude Points you have already earned will be converted to Velocity Points at the end of your statement cycle.

However, if you opt-out of the automatic reward switch by 2 August 2019, any unused Altitude Points will remain on your Altitude Rewards account.

Yes, you can switch rewards programs at any time and any number of times. You should allow at least 10 business days for a switch to be processed or as advised at the time of your request. Please refer to the Altitude Terms and Conditions (PDF 2MB) for more information.

Yes, you will be charged a $50 Altitude Velocity annual rewards fee on your Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard and/or Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard when switching to Altitude Velocity.


What if I have an American Express Westpac Altitude Card?

An annual rewards fee does not apply if you choose the Altitude Velocity program on your American Express Westpac Altitude Card. For more information, please call the number on the back of your American Express Westpac Altitude Card.

Yes, any additional cardholders will be switched to Altitude Velocity. If you are the primary cardholder, please ensure you advise your additional cardholders that you are now earning Velocity Points.

If you have a Westpac Altitude card, Velocity Points earned during a statement cycle will be added to your Velocity Points balance on a monthly basis usually within 14 days after your card account statement has been issued. 


What if I have an American Express Westpac Altitude Card?

If you have an American Express Westpac Altitude Card, Velocity Points earned during a statement cycle will be added to your Velocity Points balance on a monthly basis usually within 14 days after your Card account statement has been issued.

Yes, only if you opt-out of this change and choose to remain on the Altitude Rewards program. This means you can transfer your Altitude Points to Velocity Points whenever you like by making a one-off transfer at altituderewards.com.au.

You must meet the below eligibility criteria to be issued your complimentary Economy X Seat Upgrade Vouchers:

  • Your Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard or Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard must not be in arrears for more than two consecutive statement cycles in accordance with the Altitude Terms and Conditions (PDF 2MB);
  • You are a member of the Velocity Frequent Flyer program;
  • You have informed Westpac of your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number and the first and last name of your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership matches the first and last name of the primary cardholder; and
  • You have made a direct spend with Virgin Australia on your Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard or Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard every year from card open date or reward switch date for existing card holders who switch from another rewards program to Altitude Velocity.

To redeem, book an eligible domestic flight on your Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard or Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard. After you have booked an eligible domestic flight, call the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre on 1300 038 373 at least 24 hours prior to your flight to apply your Economy X Seat Upgrade Vouchers. Please note, all Economy X Seat Upgrade Voucher redemptions are subject to availability.


What if I have an American Express Westpac Altitude Card?

  • No, you are not eligible for the Velocity Bonus Points offer. As per promotional terms and conditions, for Westpac issued cards switches, upgrades or Westpac group staff are ineligible.
  • Please note the promotional offer is only available to eligible customers who choose Altitude Velocity as their preferred rewards program at the time of applying for a new card, and who are subsequently approved for either a Westpac Altitude Velocity Card and/or an American Express Westpac Altitude Card Bundle. Please visit westpac.com.au/velocity for eligibility and promotional terms and conditions.
  • However, for eligible customers who receive a communication and complete a rewards switch to Altitude Velocity or complete a product transfer by 2nd August 2019, the $50 Velocity Rewards Fee will be waived for the first year on the Mastercard. Please refer to your communication for further details.

American Express Westpac Altitude Cards FAQs

If you are registered for Velocity Auto-Redemption on your American Express Westpac Altitude Card, American Express will send out an email advising:

  • Your current card set up for Velocity Auto-Redemption will no longer automatically convert your Altitude Points to Velocity Points.
  • If you wish to directly earn Velocity Points, you must contact American Express on 1300 012 702 by 26 July 2019 to be switched to the Altitude Velocity rewards program on your American Express Westpac Altitude Card.
  • If you don’t contact American Express by this date, you will remain on the Altitude Rewards program and continue to earn Altitude Points. 

The Velocity Auto-Redemption feature on the Altitude Rewards program will be switched off on 2 August 2019.

Any Altitude Points swept to your Altitude Rewards account by American Express before this date will be automatically converted to Velocity Points at the end of your statement cycle.

If you wish to directly earn Velocity Points, you should opt-in to Altitude Velocity on your American Express Westpac Altitude Card by 26 July 2019.

If you don’t opt-in to Altitude Velocity by 26 July 2019, any Altitude Points swept to your Altitude Rewards account by American Express will remain in your Altitude Rewards account after the switch off date and won’t be automatically converted to Velocity Points. 

If you would like to opt-in to Altitude Velocity on your American Express Westpac Altitude Card, you must call American Express on the number on the back of your Card by 26 July 2019.

If you don’t opt-in to Altitude Velocity by 26 July 2019, any Altitude Points swept to your Altitude Rewards account by American Express will remain in your Altitude Rewards account after the switch off date and won’t be automatically converted to Velocity Points. 

No, Economy X Seat Upgrade Vouchers are only available on your Westpac Altitude Platinum Mastercard or Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard.

However, your American Express Westpac Altitude Card gives you access to other exclusive benefits such as American Express Invites and Amex Offers.
