Credit Card Hacks- Smart ways to earn rewards points

A credit card with a rewards program is a great way to get the most out of your everyday purchases. Points can be accrued on eligible purchases and redeemed for a wide range of products and services. Here at Westpac, we offer three types of rewards - Altitude Rewards, Altitude Velocity or Altitude Qantas, so you can choose a program that best suits you and, with a little bit of forethought, you could be well on the way to your next holiday or shopping spree.

Choose a rewards card with the best options

Choosing the right type of rewards card for your spending style is the best way to ensure you are leveraging your card to the best of its ability. Look for offers upon opening a new account such as bonus points, 0% balance transfers and waived annual fees to get an extra boost.

We offer two types of rewards cards to help you find the perfect fit.

Altitude Platinum Credit Card

The Westpac Altitude Platinum card comes with a larger range of benefits and offer 1 Altitude Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases made with the Altitude Platinum Mastercard or 0.5 Qantas or Velocity Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases. Qantas Points are capped on eligible purchases at $100,000 p.a. (excluding bonus points).6

Altitude Black Credit Card

The Westpac Altitude Black card is our most rewarding card and offers up to 1.25 Altitude Points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases made with the Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard or 0.75 Qantas or Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases. Qantas Points are capped on eligible purchases at $250,000 p.a. (excluding bonus points).6

Use your credit card for everyday purchases

Putting petrol in your car? Rewards card. Doing your weekly shopping? Rewards card. Heading to the movies? Rewards card. Using your rewards card for everyday purchases will go a long way for building your points balance.

Always pay your credit card on time

Maintaining good financial hygiene is always a good idea, but what you may not know is that reward point accrual may be put on hold if you don’t pay your account on time. Try out Westpac Autopay, our automatic credit card payment system to avoid missing out on points.

Have an additional cardholder

Points can also be rewarded for spends made by additional cardholders, so why not consider adding an additional cardholder to your account, who will help build up your points balance. It is free to add an additional cardholder and it can be activated through your online banking.

Ready to redeem your points? Visit the Altitude store and start rewarding yourself today.
