Yes, when paying a new payee or making a first time payment to a BPAY® biller you’ll​ be prompted to use an SMS code. This SMS code will be sent to your mobile automatically and acts as an extra layer of security.

Recently paid BPAY® billers or payees you’ve paid before won’t​ require an SMS code.

Westpac Protect™ SMS Code also acts as an alert for you in the unlikely event that an unauthorised transaction is attempted on your account. Our SMS code security gives you peace of mind knowing that you’ll receive an alert with all new transactions.
