Fees, Rates and Rewards - Frequently asked questions

false
Why are these changes being made?
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has introduced changes to credit card rules in Australia. As a result, we're making updates to certain Westpac credit card fees, rates and Rewards programs from 30 September 2026. Full details of the changes that apply to your card are set out on this page.
Why is the minimum payment due increasing?

The minimum payment is designed to make sure a portion of the balance is repaid each month so as interest rates increase the minimum repayment also needs to change. Because the calculation is changing, some customers may need to pay more than they do today. It depends on your Closing Balance each statement period.

From 30 September 2026, your minimum payment will be calculated as 2.5% of your Closing Balance or $25, whichever is greater. You’ll see the exact amount on your statement. There are several ways you can make a payment.

What options are available if my credit card no longer suits my needs?
Westpac offers several different credit cards that suit a range of lifestyle and financial needs. Visit our switching page to learn more.
What can I do if I’m worried about making my repayments?
If you think you may have difficulty making your payments in the future, or if you expect to experience financial hardship, we can help. Call us on 1800 067 497 to discuss what kind of financial support options we can provide.
Why is my Rewards program fee increasing?
The Rewards program fee changes are being made in response to new Reserve Bank of Australia rules that affect how credit cards work for businesses and customers. The Rewards program fee supports ongoing access to the rewards program, including redemption options. For current cardholders, the new fee will not apply until your next annual card fee date.
Will the Rewards program changes affect the points I already have?
No. These changes won't affect your existing points balance. Any Altitude Points you've already earned will remain in your account and can continue to be used in line with the applicable Rewards program terms and conditions.
What is changing about the way I earn points on Altitude Qantas and Altitude Velocity cards?
From 30 September 2026, the number of points you earn on some eligible purchases will change for Altitude Qantas and Altitude Velocity cards. ‘Dining’ will also move from the "Everyday Spend" category to the "All other purchases" category. The updated earn rates are set out in the tables above.
What is changing about the way I use my Altitude Rewards Points?
From 30 September 2026, you’ll need more Altitude Rewards Points for some reward options. Popular options like Pay with Points, merchandise, Altitude Travel and transfers to Everyday Rewards will not change. The updated redemption values are set out in the tables above.
Do I need to do anything now?
No. The changes will take effect on 30 September 2026. We recommend reviewing the information on this page, so you understand what is changing for your card.
