Our security guarantee

If your Westpac account is compromised as a result of Internet fraud, we guarantee to repay any missing funds, providing you comply with our Online Banking Terms and Conditions.

This includes keeping your sign-in details (including passwords, Westpac Protect™ SMS Codes and SecurID® Token codes) private.

Westpac Protect SMS Code

Westpac Protect™ SMS Code helps protect you by using your mobile phone to confirm certain transactions via text message when you bank online.

It's quick, simple, doesn't interfere with the majority of your day to day banking. It also offers:

  • Increased security
  • The ability to instantly reset your Westpac Live password online
  • Access to a higher daily payment limit
  • Same day 'Pay Anyone' payments to other Westpac accounts
  • Alerts to unauthorised activity
  • The ability to update your personal details online.

Registration with Online Banking is quick and easy

It takes just 2 minutes to register. Sign in to Online Banking, select  the ‘Services and preferences’ tab, then ‘Security’ and follow the simple step by step instructions.

Administrators of Business Networks can register SMS Protect for their users, by selecting User administration from within Westpac Live, then click the arrow next to the user’s name and select the SMS Protect option. Then follow the simple step-by-step instructions.

We'll send a new SMS code via text message to your mobile phone each time you need one. You will enter this code into Online Banking to confirm your transaction.

SecurID® Tokens

A SecurID® token is a small, portable device that generates a digital security code, which you use with to securely authorise online transactions.

  • Increased security (free of charge for personal customers)
  • The ability to instantly reset your Westpac Live password online
  • Access to a higher daily payment limit
  • Same day payments to other Westpac accounts
  • The ability to update your personal details online.

How much does it cost?

For business customers the following charges are applicable:

  • First 3 tokens per organisation - free
  • Additional tokens - $5.50 per month
  • Replacing lost or stolen tokens - $25.00 each.

Security tips for using your token

  • Keep your token secure - it fits easily into a key ring or neck chain
  • If you lose your token, contact us immediately to cancel it or stop it being used
  • Treat your token with care, and don’t expose it to extreme temperatures.
