Meet Charmaine from Marketing

I'm Charmaine Bingwa and I'm Senior Marketing Manager at Westpac Group. Here's what you need to know about me.

For me, music is the greatest form of expression

I was 11 or 12 when I first starting playing guitar, and pretty soon I was writing my own songs. Now I sing, I play guitar and bass, and I can fumble my way around a piano. I'm also in a cover band and studying at the Australian Institute of Music.

I was lead guitarist for Demi Lovato

I recently got a gig supporting Demi Lovato when she performed on The Voice and Sunrise. It was really high pressure; I'd never done anything at that level before. I'm lucky my team at Westpac were super supportive and understanding that I needed to work different hours to make the rehearsals and shows.

Even though I'm a contractor, I feel part of the family

I'm actually a contractor, but I still feel like I'm part of the Westpac family. I love that everyone here is so excited about my musical career and very encouraging and helpful when it comes to dividing my time and creative energy between my job and my music.

Variety helps me do my job better

My role as Senior Marketing Manager means I'm not always planted in front of a computer; I'm often going to photo shoots or meeting with agency partners, or even visiting the Westpac Choppers base.

I'm building my career here

I started working in Westpac's marketing team in 2012 but then got to move into the St George retail marketing, before moving back to Westpac in a more senior role. I've also joined the Westpac Global EAG Executive Committee. It's great that I've been able to pursue career opportunities here even as a contractor.
