Hi, I'm Kevin,
'Riding for a reason' is my mantra. I am a cyclist in my spare time, and fundraising and volunteering are my passions. For me, one of the best things about working at Westpac Group is how supportive they are as an organisation, how active we are in the community and all the opportunities available to me to give back as well.
Over the past seven years I have ridden thousands of kilometres and raised around $20,000. What's even more outstanding is that the money I have raised has doubled thanks to the awesome Matching Gifts program we have at Westpac Group. I think $20,000 is great but to be able to give $40,000 is so much better!
I've clocked up the kilometres and the fundraising dollars by participating in the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Sydney to Wollongong Charity Ride each year since 2009. I actively raised money using my extended network of contacts in the Group as well as outside in the community to support people suffering from MS.
For a few years running I narrowly missed out on being in the top 100 fundraisers (out of 10,000 participants) in this event but was very happy to make it into the top 100 in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, I also participated in the 'Ride to Conquer Cancer' with a Westpac/BT team and was very happy to be the top fundraiser in the team.
What makes me proud?
I am proud to work at a company where I am encouraged and supported to make a valuable difference to other people's lives. And to have my company match my fundraising dollar for dollar, that makes me prouder.
About Matching Gifts
Matching Gifts, now in its 17th year, is Westpac Group's largest corporate giving initiative and was the first of its kind to be introduced among Australian banks.
Under the program, employees make donations to the charities of their choice. Westpac Group matches those employee donations, dollar for dollar, enabling the charities to receive double the amount of the initial donation.
