Where you’ll be a part of something bigger

If you've ever wished you could do more to help your local community, you can make your wishes come true while working with Westpac Group. We have a long history of rolling up our sleeves to help build sustainable local communities, and responding to important issues that will affect our business and stakeholders.

Matching Gifts community support program

Through our Matching Gifts program, we match every dollar our employees donate to a registered Australian-based charity. Since the program started in 1998 we've donated $46 million to 1,820 charities, each of which was chosen by our people. Matching Gifts is Westpac Group's largest community support program and was the first of its kind among Australian banks.

Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter service

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter service is the longest serving search and rescue helicopter service in the world. Started by Surf Life Saving Australia in 1973, the service has saved an average of over 2,000 lives each year and carried out more than 22,000 flights ranging from medical emergencies through to search and rescue missions. We're proud to have been a major partner of this amazing free service for the last 40 years.

Natural Disaster Relief Fund

The impact of natural disasters can be devastating for communities and businesses. To help those affected to recover and rebuild their lives, we established a Natural Disaster Recover Fund. This fund is an extension of our long and proud history of helping customers affected by natural disasters by providing personalised assistance, disaster relief packages as well as donations, community grants and mentoring support.

Supported volunteering opportunities

Whether you're volunteering by yourself or bringing people together for a team-based activity that benefits the community, helping others is a rewarding experience. When you work with us you'll be able to use your Community Leave to spend time away from the office volunteering. We'll also initiate a range of general and skilled volunteering opportunities for you in our local communities.

CareerTrackers Indigenous careers partner

We aim to make a difference within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by ensuring that Indigenous recruitment is front-of-mind. In fact, in 2014 through our partnership with CareerTrackers we committed to recruiting 400 Indigenous interns over the next 10 years. CareerTrackers is a national non-profit organisation that creates internship opportunities within the private sector for talented Indigenous university students.

Indigenous community secondment opportunities

As a Westpac Group employee you'll have a unique opportunity to participate in a life-changing secondment within an Indigenous community. Through our partnership with Jawun Indigenous Corporate Partnerships, you can apply for a placement in an urban, regional or remote Indigenous community for anywhere from six to 12 weeks. These secondments give you a great chance to experience enormous personal and professional growth while contributing to our efforts to help build strong and prosperous Indigenous communities.

Westpac Bicentennial Foundation

We've created the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation as our gift to Australia to commemorate our 200th anniversary year in 2017. This foundation will help us invest in the next generation of leaders: the gifted visionaries, the bold reformers and ambitious innovators. An important part of the foundation is the Westpac Scholarship Program which will fund 100 scholarships and fellowships every year, forever.

Westpac Foundation

If you could help open a door to a brighter future for Australians in need, would you? That's the question we're asking at the Westpac Foundation, where our mission is to create opportunities for disadvantaged Australians through social and financial inclusion. Since 1999 the foundation has donated more than $28 million to hundreds of not-for-profit organisations across Australia. But what we really pride ourselves on is our 'More than money' approach that goes beyond grant-giving, where each grantee is given additional support through one-on-one mentoring, skills transfer, volunteering and additional resources.

What's been planned, and what we've achieved

Our commitment to building sustainable local communities is underpinned by our 2013 - 2017 Sustainability Strategy, which outlines what we've set out to achieve. You can see what we have actually achieved in our 2015 Sustainability Performance Report. And don't forget to look at the Reconciliation Action Plan.
