How do I register for Westpac Protect SMS Code?
Register for Westpac Protect SMS Code is easy and should only take you about 2 minutes:
- Sign in to Westpac Online Banking with your Customer ID and password
- Click the 'Administration' link at the top of the page
- Click 'Security' tab
- Click 'Register for SMS Code'
- Read the information and then click 'Register' button
- Select the country your mobile phone is based in
- Enter and confirm your mobile phone number
- Select your day and month of birth
- Click 'Continue'
- You will receive a text message on your nominated mobile phone containing a SMS code
- Retrieve your SMS code from your mobile phone
- Enter this SMS code into Westpac Online Banking where prompted
- Click 'Submit'
Once registered for Westpac Protect SMS Code you can select your Daily Limit. If you need assistance, please call the Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk on 1300 655 505.
How long will it take to register for Westpac Protect SMS Code?
The registration process should take just minutes.
What if I don't have my mobile phone with me at the time of registration?
Call the Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk, on 1300 655 505. They will be able to assist you registering without your phone. However, you will not be able to undertake any transactions to new payees or new Restricted Billers until you have your mobile phone with you.

Simply call our Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk, on 1300 655 505 to complete your registration.
Why do you want to know my day and month of birth?
We ask for your day and month of birth to provide an extra layer of identification and security during registration.
During registration I was advised 'The birth date entered does not match our records'. What can I do?
If your birth date does not match our records then please call the Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk, on 1300 655 505 for assistance.
I haven't received a Westpac Protect SMS code to confirm my registration. What should I do?
Click 'Send me a new SMS code' link if you have any further problems. Additionally, you can also call our Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk, on 1300 655 505 to check the status of your registration or for assistance with completing your registration.
I've received a SMS, what number should I enter?
The SMS code is the 6-digit number contained at the end of the SMS.
Once registered for Westpac Protect SMS Code, do I always need my mobile phone with me when using Westpac Online Banking?
No, you will be able to complete most transactions including signing into Westpac Online Banking, viewing your account information and making most payments without using Westpac Protect SMS Code.
You will be prompted to use a Westpac Protect SMS code when:
- paying a new payee, adding a new payee or modifying an existing payee in the Pay Anyone or Periodic Payments sections
- making a first time payment to a Restricted BPAY Biller
- increasing your Daily Limit online
- making Overseas Payments
- initiating a bank cheque to a new payee
- accessing your contact details or
- resetting your Westpac Online Banking password prior to signing in.
Can I register more than 1 mobile phone number?
No, only 1 mobile number per customer can be registered for Westpac Protect SMS Code. To change the phone number please contact Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk, on 1300 655 505.
We are joint account holders, can we both register for Westpac Protect SMS Code?
Yes, provided you each have your own Customer ID and password and access to a mobile phone.
If I am registered for Westpac Protect SMS Code and want to cancel this service, what should I do?
You can cancel Westpac Protect SMS Code by calling the Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk, on 1300 655 505.
I've been asked to sign up but the other account holder hasn't. Why?
We are inviting people to register over a period of time. Hence not everyone will be invited to register at the same time. However, the opportunity is available for customers to register at any time by selecting the administration link in online banking and then the security tab.
We share the same Customer ID and password for Westpac Online Banking. Can we still register for Westpac Protect SMS Code?
Each customer must sign in to Westpac Online Banking using their own unique Customer ID and password as per the Terms and Conditions agreed to upon initial registration. Please contact the Westpac Protect SMS Code Help Desk, on 1300 655 505 to register the joint account holder.
I only use Business Online Banking, can I register for Westpac Protect SMS Code?
No, as a Business Online Banking customer we have SecurID tokens available. Contact our Business Online Service Centre, on 1300 655 505, to discuss this online security option.
Can I register at any time?
Yes, you can register for Westpac Protect SMS Code at any time.

Do I receive confirmation once I register?
You will receive an SMS Code text message on your mobile phone to enter to complete your registration. You will see a page confirming your registration in Westpac Online Banking.
If I use a token for Business Online Banking, can I use the token in Westpac Online Banking as well?
No. SecurID tokens can only be used by customers transacting within Business Online Banking.
