As the application process for overseas applicants is quite different to the process for Australian citizens and residents, it is important that you apply using the process outlined below only.
Who can apply
To apply for a Westpac credit card you must belong to one of the following categories:
- Australian citizen
- Permanent resident returning to Australia
- New Zealand citizen
- Employer sponsored visa (long stay or temporary)
- Skilled Permanent or Skilled Independent Regional (Provisional) visa
- Business Skills, Investor or Talent visa.
Note: You will also need to satisfy our normal lending criteria when applying for a credit card.
Before you apply
Before applying for an Australian credit card, read the product information, Terms and Conditions and Conditions of Use for the credit cards you are interested in.
Be aware that you will also need to:
- Move to Australia within 6 to 8 weeks of your application
- Have an ongoing source of income after you arrive in Australia
- Have an Australian address so we can post our correspondence to you.
What you need when you apply
- Copy of your passport pages confirming your personal details and residency or citizenship status
- Letter of employment or pay slip showing your income and start date or
- Documents showing income from investments or rental properties, which can include the bond lodged as part of the conditions of the visa
- Your Australian address.
How to apply
To apply for your new credit card, complete the following steps:
1. Download, complete and send the Westpac Credit Card Application (PDF 74kb). Attach to your application the documents mentioned under 'What you need when you apply'.
2. If you are applying before your arrival from overseas, please email the completed application (with scanned copies of the relevant attachments) to: migrantbank@westpac.com.au.
If you've already arrived in Australia, you can visit any Westpac branch to apply for a credit card.
What happens next?
If we approve your application (within 15 business days) we will send:
- Your credit card to your nominated Westpac branch
- A letter advising you to collect your credit card.
Collect your credit card within 6 weeks of receiving our letter. Show your passport when you collect your card. If you don’t collect it within 6 weeks the card will be destroyed.
